Good grief, they're coming along nicely. Mine are just popping out of the soil. And i daren't uncover the peony trees yet. You must live in a warmer climate to me.

Hi compostee, I think we might be a little warmer. It never occured to me to cover the tree peonies. They are in full leaf already, I will take a pic tomorrow :D

I have the fancy names written down somewhere, but its enough to know that in the peony bed there are pink, white and reds.

Love Peonies, Babe. But aren't they these wondrous plants that you admire emerging and then go on holiday in June for two weeks and missed the blooms and their beauty?

    I almost cried.

Must admit, that was a long time ago.

They are early though to summer flowering, but what you say is true if you only have one variety. They come early and give good foliage the whole summer into late autumn.

Mine are June bloomers but I only have the common red one. They do well here providing there's not too much wind and rain to wreck the flowers. They are showing but no where near as advanced as yours BM.

This was taken 9th. June last year.

Nice frogesque, I think they are cracking plants ! Mine are well protected but complained about the shade last year. I have thinned the tree they grow under and so far even with less branch shade they seem much happier.

    My june bloom

That is absolutely beautiful, frogesque! A "to die for" bloom.

But as you say, as I did, June! I went away .. actually here to Portugal .. and when I went back ...

That's a cracker BM - wouldn't mind cadging a tuber if you ever get round to dividing them. ;)

LoL: Do they grow in Portugal or is it too hot and dry for them?

Mine are just poking through the ground too, my "bowl of beauty" didn't do too well last year, the blooms were quite small and they are supposed to be quite big; but I did as I think you told me BM and fed them; so I'm hoping they will be better this year.

My red ones are fine maybe they are not so delicate...

    Aaaaah, peonies [IMG]
    Yours look great bananaman.
I have one in between mine and my neighbour's garden. There's a fence in between and I have the side it shades at this time of year, it's amazing how much further on the bit of peony on her side is, probably about a foot high whereas my side is only just unfurling the first leaves (no buds yet either side though!) I moved into my house mid-may last year and the peony was out then, it's a gorgeous red one right by the front door (probably the only bit of garden you could actually see at that point) and will always remind me of the combined joy and terror of picking up the keys to the first house I ever owned :D

I love peonies - partly for sentimental reasons, partly because they have such lovely flowers.....

The Tree Peonies are amazingly hardy - think they're from China, aren't they? I first realised how tough they were when I spent a day doing some voluntary gardening at Branklyn Garden in Perth, a NTS garden, where they have a few specimen trees, with loads and loads of youngsters all round them, and even more seeds lying around, some of them sprouting, some nibbled by mice..... they can cope with this country, no prob! And if they can cope with Scotland, they can certainly cope with the south of England - unless they can't cope with the warmth??

I have a few Tree peonies, yellow, red, purple, white and a burgundy one, my White one (a single) has about 3 buds on it and is about 2' high, and it is still residing in the greenhouse [IMG] ...... Which does help :D .

The white one is advanced, whereas the others are a bit slower, which must be down to their different growing characteristics, as the conditions they are kept in (my greenhouse) are obviously the same.
