    Hello Pete,
Had some given to us last year by an American chap - about the size of elongated tennis balls and tasted like a cross between melon and cucumber (similar to starfruit). They went well in fruit salad....with gert big dollops of cream!! The colour was very similar to your photo if I remember correctly. He said you could eat the seeds as well.

PS Looks like the 2 my lab lost!!

After seeing what you produced above, I saw one in Wilkinsons in March, and it resembled a twig ( same as my fig ;) ).

hello pete, I got my info from
    www.crfg.org/pubs/ff/pepino.html
some of the names are, perhaps, local. Solanum muricatum Ait. i was interested in your post as i mixed up pepino and pimienta [internet recipe] so we had cucumber instead of peppers in our mediterranean chicken dish [ not recomended]
