Yes!, both my Dad and Granddad grew them for showing, six feet high and few flowers on them, though beautiful.

Cheaper and easier to go to the flower stand in your local supermarket on this one!:gnthb:

    Hi Dave

Carnations are my favourite flower ... both for beauty and scent ... heavenly! Freesias are second ...

My other half has bought me flowers twice in our 43 years together .. once on my 21st birthday / our 1st wedding anniversary and they were red and white carnations on top of a tin of chocolates (I'm not a chocoate fan) .. :hehe: .. but it was the first year!

The second time was on my 40th / our 20th and I had delivered to me at work 40 red and 20 white Carnations ... the very, very large tall ones. There was a slight difficulty as I drove an MG Sprite at the time and I could just about get them and me in the car to get home .... whey, hey ... :yho:

I have grown them here from seed and they were with me for several years but sadly I have not had any for the past two years. I may try again this year and there is a fantastic one called Candy Stripe ... a lovely red and white striped one.

Whelllll ! why didn't you say so, as Daffy Duck would say! :gnthb:

Good for you, buy good varieties from a specialist nursery, the only downside is the amount some of them charge for carriage.

They need to be grown cool and airy even during the winter, so it is not so good growing them in with tomatoes, as the carnations may get mildew and furry moulds.

Anyway good growing and let us know how you get on!

    Cheers!
    Tommy.
