    Died a few days ago:
Peter Seabrook: Gardening writer and broadcaster dies aged 86

He was the first TV gardener I found interesting. Prior to him we had the likes of Percy Thrower who gardened in a suit and tie and advised us to burn our compost heaps and douse everything with chemicals. The BBC series 'Dig This' was something I couldn't miss, I even invested 40p in his book, my first gardening book. Still have it if anyone needs any tips.

I only vaguely remember him, not sure why as I remember percy thrower, but then I was in and out of plants and growing in those days.

Always remember Peter Seabrook on a TV gardening program with Geoff Smith, who always used a sharp knife to take cuttings etc but did so with the knife facing towards his thumb, which Peter always warned him against, only to burst out laughing when Geoff actually cut his thumb live on tv.
Smith was not amused to say the least .... always wondered if they ever made up ..

He had a spot on Pebble Mill on a Friday lunchtime .... started recycling yogurt pots which upset the garden manufacturer's .. he was a good allrounder.. my mum used to say he could do with a good meal lol

Was he more on the radio than the TV?

I really dont remember him being on the TV that much, although I did know of him.
I thought Geoff Hamilton kind of ruled the roost on the TV in the late 70s and 80s.

We must have had BBC 2, because I remember this big button on the front that changed it from 405 lines to 625 lines.;)

He was on the telly lots, don't remember him on the radio. He had a column in one of the gardening magazines until recently, might have been the RHS one.
