Through the gate at the end is my Allotment.
A cross between Steptoes yard and the Amazon, I'll show that later. :D :D

Looking good pete, funny you can't get the cordylines in the shot. I wish I had an allotment though the back gate, our alotments are a 5 minute walk away which isn't quite the same. Small is beautiful by the way, if you can't go sideways go up!!! :D

It's a cracker! I love the discreet feeling of enclosure, you could be miles from anywhere. Must be nice in the evening with a refreshment or two

The strelitzia looks good in the pic Pete
are they washingtonias in the first pic behind the seat and by the pond?
I sometimes wish I had a proper garden instead of the "paved back yard" and the postage stamp size front, looking at yours is one of those times. :D

BM, yes it a revoluta, its been out two winters now, but I cheat and build a temp cover around it for the winter, I might not this winter, and see what happens. Its not grown at all since I planted it.
Yes Washingtonias strongy but they struggled a bit last winter and are a bit scruffy at the moment.
Thanks jazid, sometimes I wish I was miles from anywhere. [IMG]

pete my washingtonias struggled too this winter, only on my first leaf so far. They were unprotected and are only about 6 inches of trunk so they have done well to get through the cold winter we had.

My washingtonia also struggled, the two newest leaves have brown marks across them as they open. maybe ice/frost burn. The Brahia Armarta came through unscathed.

The Beaucarnia which Honeybee is refering to is a fantastic specimen, I presume you overwinter it the conservatory.
I should have bought a Waggi instead of fortunei it is a much neater looking plant.

I think the brown marks on the leaves of washintonias is something we will have to put up with, at least they survived and dont know if its true but I think they may get hardier as they get bigger.
I've got a pair of the beaucarnea, there's another on the other side, I'm looking for a good home for them, I grew them from seed about twenty years ago and they seriously need a repot, but as far as my space goes its all getting a bit impractical, I just keep them frost free and dry during the winter.
Wish I could get a brahea Armata to grow, I've bought two plants now and the second died this spring and thats before I even think of planting outside.
I've got a fortunei in the front garden, its not as big as the waggy but they do take up more space I think, of course once the trunk gets above head height thats not a problem. ;)
