Below is a posting from another alloment site and thought it may be of interest to you all.
Come on everybody click on the site below and lodge your appeal.
I believe over 300 have signed so far.
    link:- http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/allotments/

    The posting went as follows:-

I've noticed a Petition running on the PM's new "E-Petition" Site.

The topic: We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to provide more land for allotments for people to grow their own vegetables.

    More details:

    This will do the following:

    1. Allow people to save money.

    2. Provide an area for abundant wildlife.

    3. Help to absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

    4. Help to cut the amount of carbon dioxide in the world's atmosphere: people grow their own food instead of buying it all thus reducing 'air miles' (and shipping and lorry pollution).

    5. Provide people with a community group to belong to and enjoy.

    6. Provide people with a space to exercise while doing something worthwhile - it will benefit them in two different ways at the same time.

There simply aren't enough allotments around. I belong to one, half of which has just been taken over by the golf course next door, halving the allotments while only increasing the golf course by about 3%. I believe there is a waiting list of people desperate to obtain a plot, but there simply isn't enough land.

It's a shame that there isn't a scheme for people who have a lot of land but no skills to be matched up with people with the skills and need for the space to come to some agreement to share the land. I think it could be beneficial to both sides.

I've got the space but no skills I'm trying but it's very hard to figure things out alone. I suppose it's very much trial and error and seeing what works and what doesn't.

I used to garden with my grandma who was very skilled when it came to growing things and what should go where etc. but she past about 5 years ago now and there isn't really anyone else with the skills or interest that I know.

HI Azadaman, welcome to gc. yes it is a good idea and people should grow more veg and stuff instead of lining the supermarkets pockets. they killed the corner shops and the greengrocerer. we need plots to grow our own and without chemicals.

please vote it dont cost anything just a click please.

Well I'm sick with excitement because I'm seeing someone on Saturday about having my very own allotment! A vacant one near a friends has become available, which she says is in really good shape. Can't wait. Going to give my son a plot, see if I can pass on the gardening bug!! It's also a very social site. They tend to spend the evenings viewing their work with a glass or two of red! My sort of gardening!!
