    Hi All.

In case any of you hadn't found out yet, a petition was launched yesterday to lobby the government to ban aminopyralid, which is the active ingredient in Forefront, the weedkiller that is causing so many problems for allotment holders and gardeners.

The Govt. petition site is here http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Aminopyralid/

There have already been threads on this site about the problem. The more of us that kick up a stink, the more chance there is that something can be done about it.
    more here...
    http://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profiles0708/Weedkiller-manure.asp

In addition, emailing or writing to your local MP would help the cause. I'm certainly going to.

Sincere apologies if this is off topic, or not in the best place in the forum, but it has already affected many of us with allotments or gardens growing veggies, and will affect more of us if not checked now.

    cheers,
    Dave

Good find Dave, this idea had been discussed on another forum but we were worried that we might get a very low turnout, even the petitions with tens of thousands of votes have been fobbed off by Govt.

So please please please everyone vote.

Im afraid to say I doubt it will be banned as it is a usefull chemical in the farmers armourary. I know some of the turf selectives use the same chemistry also.

So, our "guardians of the countryside" are now poisoning the grass before the animals eat it, and we eat the animals.

If the human race survives another 50 yrs I will be suprised.:(

No I wont,.. I'll be dead by then:D

"I doubt it will be banned as it is a usefull chemical in the farmers armourary"

Whilst I agree that its akin to a miracle cure, the "you must tell anyone you give Feedstuffs / Excrement-stuff to" part is manifestly not working, and even if the product is not banned heads-should-roll to make sure that the chain of communication is "robust" in future.

    Agree,

Im suprised the farmers havent been made more aware of the issue by the chemical manufactures.

With horticultural selectives the packaging makes very clear not to mix the clippings into general compost for two or three cuts.

vegmandan: thing is its not just manure, my contaminated compost hadn't been through any animal; it is made from hay

And a bit of an extreme generalisation about farmers which I completly disagree with, even though I lost nearly my whole veg plot to this fiasco.

"It's clearly printed on the bottles and literature of this stuff"

Does anyone know if that was only the labels a year or more back? I've seen it on the current ones, but I think the responsibility is a bit different if it was not on last year's labels

" And a bit of an extreme generalisation about farmers which I completly disagree with"

    Yup, me to.

Most of the detailed usadge instructions on pesticide bottles are printed off on foldout leaflets adherd to the side of the bottle.

The main properly stuck on labels just have statutry information and a breif sumary, Trust me the little leaflets dont last 5 mins being banged about in a sprayer cabinet, landrover bed or damp chemical store.

secondly it is not in the chemical manufacturers intrest to make a big thing of it.

There are good and bad farmers, to tarr all with one brush is very unfair.
