Anyone ever grown this climber ?
I came a cross it in Majorca some years ago . It was in full flower in a botanical garden on the island
I managed to find a plant 2years ago from 'Jungle Seeds' but although alive is a poor specimen .

Yes I see that Pete , I thought I might at least have got it moving in the summer but something not quiet right .. I'm thinking I may have kept in to dry ,I have it on a heat bed over winter for a little extra warmth .
Trouble is when so much growing in the summer some things get neglected ,thinking this may be the case . I think if I could get it growing and some size to it I might have a chance .It was a wonderful site im Majorca.
Hopefully have a bit more time this summer now I retired ..
Do you have a heated greenhouse Pete ? any favorites ?

Dave I have a smallish greenhouse I keep frost free,(hopefully) and a conservatory that I keep on the warm side.
Erythrina Christa Galli is one of my favourites, along with a few passion flowers, cacti/succulents.

I also have a sizable Strelitzia which is growing outdoors but protected in winter, I might plant the Erythina and a Protea in the same border this spring.
I tend to use the greenhouse for overwintering plants that are basically very happy outdoors in summer.

Petrea is something haven't tried, I have seen it growing abroad but surprised it grows well in Majorca as they can have fairly cold winter temperatures and I always thought of Petrea to be subtropical.
Hope you have more success with it this summer.

    Hi Strongy.
I thought the same of the weather in Majorca .thats why I thought I might be able to grow it ?
The specimen in that photo I took was hugh, on the house wall ..The botanical garden was well worth a visit if anyone is visiting Majorca..

Dave, where is the Botanical garden? I wasn't aware there was one. I haven't been there for six years but would like another visit.

I noticed that the minimum temp in Majorca and Menorca last night was 1c not much different to here!! although I think they escape the frost which does the damage.
This one was growing against a wall in Madeira taken last year. Even if I had my own greenhouse I think it would grow too unruly.

I'm not sure whether it can be grown in a pot and flower well as it is a rampant climber. Dave will hopefully let us know later how it faired.:)

I found the gardens by accident a couple of years ago .. It is called Soller Botanic garden and is the Soller side of the road tunnel. Set up 1985 and opened to the public 1992. I went through the tunnel by accident I was looking for another garden at the time .
I realy enjoyed the visit I have some photos I'll put a couple up later ..I did find the gardens I was looking for later that day anthey were the other end of th tunnel ..I will look up the name of that also ..
