Petrol Lawnmowers

    Hi all, I am looking to buy a petrol self driven lawnmower and was thinking about a mountfield, any thoughts on this make or any that you would recomend for about £200

    I like a rear roller driven by the engine (rather than four separate wheels - if you "drop" one over the edge of the lawn it scalps the lawn :( compared to a roller).

    I had a Mountfield which performed well. Much lighter than the J.Deere I have now - but, in fairness, it was a few years back and the extra wieght of the J. Deere may be all the Health and Safety dead-mans-handles and other totally O.T.T. devices :(

    Second hand honda would be my sudgestion. Nothing with a briggs engine.

    Don't know why you say "Nothing with a Briggs engine", I have one of the Atco Merry Tillers (last of the line), it stood out in the garden for about five years unused (covered with an aluminium cover which was used as a nesting site). It is now in regular use after replacing the exhaust and cleaning.

    I agree with Larkshall. I've got a Sovereign, self-propelled mower with a 3.5. hp Briggs and Stratton engine which I've had for about five years. It's never been serviced, lives in a damp shed but always starts when it comes out of its winter hibernation.:gnthb:
