    Hi,

Does anyone know what the really, really long Petunias are, that l've seen in some hanging baskets. I remember seeing some last year, and they were so beautiful, :wub2: but l have not been able to find any.:love30:Also, would l be able to sow them from seed - l know that it is too late for this year - but l would like to be able to do so next year.

Surfinia petunias kapper they'll trail to 3ft, I've grown mine from seed for this year, so yes you can sow from seed next year, a few flowers just opening on mine.

I just picked this up from a growers site...

Once you try this tough cascading petunia you will certainly want to grow more of them. Propagate plants by cuttings instead of seeds as petunia hybrids will not come true from seed.

I thought Surfinias could not be grown from seed :what:

Hello Kapper5502 , The showy trailing petunias I grow are the petunia wave series , link below. I now only grow the Shock-Wave series which are the smaller flowered petunia. They do perform really well . The germination rate seems to depend on colour , the pink I got 80% germination , the Coconut 35% , the Denim 1 feeble plant. The seeds are expensive in the UK , so I buy mine from the USA on Ebay . So for me the sensible thing to do is buy Surfinias ! 3 will easily fill a 14" basket

Ooops sorry, just found my seed packet and the variety I bought was from T+M and were called Petunia grandiflora pendula 'Lady Purple' F1 hybrid £3.89 for 20 seeds and did get 14 plants, only paid £1.95 for the seeds as they were on offer, they do trail to 3ft but no not surfinias , my mistake:o

The best performer I had Josie was the pink , the wave site does not sell seeds, just advertises the range.
    Shock Wave™

I buy my seeds from an Ebay seller in California , she has a huge selection of petunia seeds at about £1.52 for 30 . The Wave series are availalble around christmas time. Petunias are very very slow growing at first but will be in flower towards the end of June. Now my shop bought Surfinias have been in bloom for a couple of weeks.
