Phal leaves on one of my going yellow

Longk what should I be doing?

It is ab old orchid hoping it lasts.

 

Ive got that with one of mine Scotkat but mine was only bought last year. The leaves feel sticky too so not sure what is the problem but hoping someone on here can come up with an answer

 

If it's only the bottom leaves, that is normal.........

If it is more widespread I'd be looking at the roots. Also, when misting them it is important not to allow water to collect in the top of the plant, as this can cause rot.

Sticky secretions indicate that it is too warm or too much direct sunlight.

 

I only have 3 leaves on my orchid so should i cut them off? It was fine when i had it in the kitchen in the summer but since i moved it to the hall this has happened yet the other 2 i moved at same time are fine. Looks like i have a lot to learn Thanks for your advice and i will move them all back to the kitchen.

And all three leaves are yellowing? How do the roots look? After a 15/20 minute soak they should be green - silvery green at the least.

 

Yes LongK it is and the only one i bought from a garden centre!

 

Sticky leaves suggests scale insect to me.

True, but when I bought an infected Oncidium the Phals were completely unaffected........

So all three leaves are yellowing?

Certainly worth checking for pests (including scale).

What is the temperature in your hallway, and is it exposed to cold draughts there?

Could you post a photo of it now?

 

All the leaves are yellowing longk but tomorrow i will check carefully for pests and also take a photo and post as it will give you a better idea of what the leaves look like.

The temperature is about 70 in the hallway if heating is on but plant not exposed to cold draughts.

Could help, followed by a washing of the leaves a few days later.

I've never found scale insect to actually kill the leaves though, so if they are going yellow there is probably some other reason.
Usual one being over watering.

 

Thanks Pete thought i had been careful with watering but very much an amateur with orchids. Will take picture and then maybe you and Longk will have more idea.

 

Here is the picture of my orchid that isnt doing so well. Lots of white underneath the leaves as well as on top. Hope this helps.

 

Not the greatest detail, but I'm tempted to suggest mealy bug infestation maybe. The bugs themselves don't kill, but the fungal infection that follows can.

I think that it's done for. The roots don't look up to much.

Wait for Peter, but for now isolate it.

 

Really difficult to say from that picture.

I know they get masses of root, but does that pot contain any compost at all?
Maybe it should have been potted on some while back?

Personally I think its a gonner, it would take ages to recover, if it was to do so.:(
