Hi all. Does anyone know anything about the above? I just saw them for sale in Focus of all places and they look really lovely. The care card doesn't say much about them, but when I google I'm only finding US sites. I'd like to buy one, but am worried that it won't survive outside, especially in the winter.

In general it wont survive outside in the winter.

If you have a very sheltered spot that remains almost frost free its possible, but unlikely to make it through.
A large plant has a better chance than a smaller one.
But personally if I bought a large expensive plant I wouldn't like to risk it.

The leaves scorch very easily if they are not acclimatised to full sun slowly, which can be a problem if you overwinter in a greenhouse and then move out for the summer.

Not the easiest of palms IMO.
But they do look nice and are softer leaved than most.

Guys, thanks so much! Bob yours looks great! The ones in Focus look pretty much the same size.
They're selling them for £30 this time too (half price apparently down from £60!).

My next question is answered then... it needs to go in a large pot so that I can move it into our greenhouse in the winter (we were going to plant it in the ground).

I think we will go and buy one as they really look lovely. We will just have to make sure we look after it properly as you advise :-)

    Again thanks!

    That looks good Bob.

Mine rotted off this winter, in the greenhouse, with heating.

Not sure what happened but the growing point has just pulled and its now out in the garden with two choices.:D

You are better off looking for a Butia capitata, Chamaerops humilis or Trachycarpus.

For the money and faff it's best to rely on the best cold hardy palms.

My two were kept in an unheated utility room duing the worst of the bad weather last winter but now outside they have suffered from sun burn and some of the fronds have turned light brown on top.:(
Although not as cold as some areas I don't think they would have survived even here this last winter.

My Phoenix canariensis coped it last winter outside. The look good but with no greenhouse I won't get another one. The patio is also too small for it - I kept getting spooked by it when I was least expecting!
