Can anyone advise what Desease this could be and how can I treat it.

I have had a Photinia for 3 years it was a fairly large plant when I bought it,but every year it starts off well then the leaves start getting dark brown spots and then they start going yellow.
I have tried giving it Sequestrene but it doesn't seem to help.

It is no bigger than when I bought it.

Hi Maurice,Is a photo possible,it would be easier to Identify,Photinia(Red robin) is sometimes prone to leaf spot,But It could just as wll be a temperature drop which happens sometimes over the winter,From which It will recover,or It could be stress,or a deficency of
    some kind.
It dos,ent sound like Entormosporium leaf spot, but untill I can actually see It I would,nt
    like to suggest a treatment.

My Camera has just broken but may be able to get a Photo in a couple of days.

I don't think it is temperature drop as it is an all year problem.

Well for now Try removing the Infected leaves and any thats on the ground around the base,(Do Not}use these as compost as they may be carrying the bacteria.Try deep watering from the base and make sure the air can circulate freely all round.
Nothing ventured nothing gained.Good luck [IMG]

Does sound like leaf spot - and not much to be done about it. It shouldn't be a problem in that it won't kill the plant, but since it's a plant that's grown specifically for its lovely leaves, then that's a problem in itself.

Do what WOO says, and that'll help keep the plant basically healthy - and if the leaf problem continues, I'd be inclined to get a new plant....if it's not growing, it's not happy.

IF you do remove it, I'd try improving the drainage of the soil before planting anything else, as it could be that the roots aren't getting enough space. If you dig in plenty of organic matter, and get it well dug, removing and builders' rubbish, that'll improve things a lot.

    Best of luck!

don't forget they don't like lime, not sure what your soil type is, but if like mine they just turn their legs up and die on me!

That's a point, Waco! No, they prefer acid soil - and chances are it's alkaline in Cambridge. Do you know, Maurice?

That could well account for it not thriving, and being prone to disease. If that's the case, I'd be inclined to remove it and replace it with something else.

Nice to see you again, Waco - not seen you for ages!!
