I've just bought a Photinia Red Robin shrub and only noticed the following on the label after I got home - "Foliage, March to May" - but what happens after May? I am assuming it just loses the distintive red foliage and reverts to green and not that all the foliage drops off (at least I hope not).

don't panic!! You're right - but the red doesn't totally disappear either, it's just that's when it's at its best! Heaves sigh of relief!!! :D (love the Avatar, BTW!) Are the Scots taking over here??? ;) )

Thanks for confirming that. I was afraid some wag would answer "just wait until May and find out!"

I don't think I can be included in the Scottish takeover - I've only posted five times here in just under a year!

Had a very nice Photinia bush in Edinburgh and the one in my current garden is just coming into it's best. Dendrobium's right it is at it's best April/May but a good shrub.bush all year - now grow mine as a sort of standard and prune it regularly.

    Photinia Red Robin.....
Very often if you lightly prune when the red is fading it will reward you with another another flush of red foliage, moreso with larger plants. [IMG]
