I've just been offered an allotment!

Fantastic plot, I've really struck lucky.

I'll post some photo's of the fruit trees in a bit as I'm not sure what they all are but I know there's at least one plum tree and the front two beds in the photo are Strawberries & Raspberries I think which looked like they were chopped back in the autumn?

I'm not sure, I hope so though! I've emailed the lady from the parish council to find out so fingers crossed

I'm unsure of what to do with all the fruit trees though, would I be correct in thinking that the middle of a bed is the wrong place for them? would the regular root disturbance from annual crops not damage their roots?

Okay so guess the twig time ;)

Fruit Bushes, not thorny so Currant?

                  fruitbushes_img1.jpg fruitbushes_img2.jpg fruitbushes_img3.jpg plant1.jpg plant1_img2.jpg plant2_img1.jpg

                  Plum?

                  tree1_img1.jpg tree1_img2.jpg

                  Another fruit tree

                  tree2_img1.jpg tree2_img2.jpg

Damage to the largest plum tree probably from the tree guard, is this a lame duck?

One of two Grape Vines, slight issue is the wooden arch is almost entirely rotten and I don't believe it's still attached to the ground, what's the best thing to do with this?

I'd agree with you about what's already there, definitely a red or white currant and that bark looks like a plum tree. Your "another fruit tree" is probably an apple.

I think that damaged plum tree is most likely to survive and thrive, it's only young so should grow away from the damage.

I'd be inclined to rig up some temporary supports for the grape vine to see how it fares in the first season, if it's a good one and worth keeping then you can erect a better support next autumn - saves time as you must have lots of other work to be done in the short term.

                          CongratUlations: excellent plot! :yay:

The traditional reminder for garlic was: "Plant on the shortest day; harvest on the longest"

The shortest day is 21 Dec and that was only 3 weeks ago. Garlic should be exposed to a good frost once planted (hence why it is planted in winter), so, I would say planting the lot now can only be a good thing (for the bulbs, but, perhaps not for your back ;) ).

Wishing you shedloads of successes :yay: :yay: :yay:

                            Thanks "M" :)

I planted the Garlic up today, quite a bit less than what I was given as some of the bulbs had gone mushy in storage, whoops

Still I've got 60 or so cloves planted up into modules and I sowed some Rhubarb seed today as well old staples 'Victoria' & 'Glaskin's Perpetual'
