Having to stop peeling the shallots as tears are streaming down my face. I have my glasses on and usually that helps, but not today. I've only done about 6 clusters and I have half a bucket still to do.
    How do others manage?

@pete so many people have told me to peel them under water but how can you cut the tops and bottoms in a bow/bucket full of water?
Have done them in short bursts. Maybe it is the variety we planted? No idea now what they were but 2 different ones.
Have given them a good clean and now being salted to hopefully keep them crisp once bottled.

Have you tried putting cotton wool in both nostrils, I have a theory that it's breathing through your nose that allows the fumes to reach your eyes.
