I have 2 Pieris that are getting too big for where they are and want to cut them back. Absolute novice in the garden so no idea as to when to do it or how aggresive I can be without damaging them. Any suggestions will be appreciated

I needed to trim mine, and I found that the best time to do it is just after flowering, They flower on last years growth so if you do it as soon as the flowers fade you will be more likely to have new growth for next year.
If you need to be more drastic you can cut back to about half, but it will take longer to recover.

Terry I would not worry too much, I have my pieris accidently pruned by my friends tractor whilst he was digging out my Leylandii, I thought it was a gonner especially as we havie it in lime soil. Anyway it has grown back as happy as ever.

Best not to prune this way ;) but they are tougher than what you think.

Thanks for replies. Will prune when (if) it stops raining!
