Has anyone visited one of Piet Oudolf's gardens or read any of his books? Has anyone tried styled prairie planting? I have only just come across it and feel very excited about it although I am nervous of attempting it. Would love to hear from anyone with experience in this area. Carrie
The guy in this link is into prairie planting, hope it is of some help. http://www.cottagegarden.org.uk/july2007_6.htm
We did one. We are about to rip it all out and do something else. The scheme uses a lot of the ornamental grasses. Remember that if you make a bed which they like then weed grasses especially couch will also love it. Ours has been over whelmed so it goes!
Thanks for the link. Photos are a great help. Sorry to hear you are having to rip your prairie garden up, mind you, that does seem to be what gardening is about most of the time! I had not considered the problem of couch etc. Worth considering. I feel I am looking for something a bit different. I went to Trentham gardens the other day and loved the movement of the grasses. The beds were also packed, which I like, and had a softness to them whilst still maintaining a look of control. My garden is pretty but not wow and whilst I love softness, mine can look a bit chaotic. Maybe I would do better trying to improve the planting I have, of shrubs and perrenials, instead of leaping too far. Carrie
