Not the wrong section at all, I suppose gardening might be pushing it just a bit, but edible is OK.:)

Possibly two things, the roots are too wet and rotted or the atmosphere is too dry.

As a bromeliad they actually take a fair amount of their nutrient through the leaves, so spraying occasionally with a very weak liquid feed is a good idea.
The roots rot off very easily if overwatered, they should be allowed to nearly dry out before watering again.
Just my opinion, but I find it works.

You can spray the whole plant, it absorbs trapped moisture.

You dont say how much light the plants are getting, they are not a good house plant really as they need more light than is usually available in the average house.

Do you have the true commercial pine apple or the variegated one with a white stripe?

On the green ones you get fruit.

I find three years from cutting, (top of fruit), to fruiting.
Good light and a 8in pot, with a winter minimum of 12c at night.
