I'm still not totally sure on how and when to pinch out new seedlings and which type needs pinching out...

I have some black pansy and sunflower(earth walker) seedlings growing and some cherry tom seedlings to name but a few do any of these need pinching?

Thanks for any help,i usually just buy established plants from garden centres, but trying to do it properly this year lol! :)

Only thing I can think of that I would pinch out when very small are Sweet peas. I cut them off when they have about 3 pairs of leaves.

I pinch out peppers when they are about 9" tall, but only if they haven't bushed out by themselves, and almost invariable just about the time I am thinking they are going to need help they then do it by themselves.

I pinch out Sweet peas after the third set of true leaves , I pinch fuschias and petunias if they look leggy. I would not pinch out sunflowers or pansies. generally if in doubt don't :blue thumb:
PS . Pinching some plants does improve bushiness , but will delay flowering /fruiting. I reckon it delayed the chilli plant I pinched last year by 4 weeksish.

Yup, I work on it causing a 3 - 4 week delay too.
