Pinching out

    I keep reading about the germination and seedling point where you pinch it out what does this actually mean

    Hi Jason, you definitely meant pinching out, not thinning out, yes? If so, the simple answer is by pinching out the top growth, you cause the plant to grow outwards and more bushy rather than long and leggy. Here is a nice video explaining how:

      Jason , pinching is the process off removing the top portion of a young plant to make it bushier or more compact. You normally do this with your fingernails or small snips. The first plant you are likely to pinch in the season are sweet peas. You pinch out between the third and fourth sets of true leaves. Other plants , as Fuchsia , Chillies etc I pinch when they are getting a little tall and just remove the growing tip to promote branching .
