Pinching Tomato shoots

i have heard that the shoots at the junction where the leaf meets the stem are meant to be pinched off. If so, what size should the plant be before i begin doing this??

you need to pinch the shoots as you see them 1/2" makes them easier to grip

If you grow tomatoes in a greenhouse/polytunnel you can use side shoots when about 5- 8ins long as cuttings and plant them in the pot/grow bag with the parent plant. They should root and start growing in a week or two (in warm weather) and provide you with a lot of extra toms.
