Well after several failed attempts over the years to get a pineapple top to root and a ginger root to shoot I've finally achieved both this year; my ginger root has produced a 3-4" shoot over the last couple of weeks and checking the bottom of the pot that the pinepple top is in I found several roots poking through the bottom :yess: :thumb:

Nothing serious to this, just a bit of a fun challenge that I set myself...:D

    Excelent news Bilbo:dbgrtmb:

Do you know i've not got round to buying another Pineapple to start again after the last failure, simply because i've had no reason to visit the fruit & veg shop since winter.

I suppose thats a good thing, but i'll make an effort to try again.

Are you going to re pot the Pineapple ?

Hi Zig, I suppose I ought to repot it soon as it's only in a 5" pot; not sure on the best way to progress to be honest; do they like being root bound or do they prefer a large pot?

I believe they prefer the compost on the dry side, is this right?

As I said it's just a bit of fun so not going to loose sleep over it :D :thumb:

Bilbo, I've grown a few, the most difficult part is getting them through the winter, they need minimum of 10c rising to 15c during the day, and good light.
Not too bad while small but once 3 to 4 ft across it gets harder.:D

And your right, better to under water rather than too much.

Root system is not massive, so smaller pots than you would think are OK, good luck.
