    Hi folks

I'm into healthy eating and take the 5 fruits a day thing. I have taken to fresh Pineapple and wondered if I could grow the top off cut.
I don't expect it to bear fruit but might be interesting though.

[IMG] Hi Pal, Pete is the one here I think, but I have one growing at the moment in the greenhouse that I rooted last year. You have to make sure they haven't pulled the growing tip out of the centre & find one that is undamaged.

This is excellent for instructions on what to do..

I followed these. Good Luck. Will take a photo of mine & post a photo of it when I come back in later.. [IMG]

You can do it pal, I dont know what winter temp Marley is keeping in her greenhouse, mine has an abolute min of 10C, I think below that they can rot off.
Good light is nesessary in winter also, so I dont recommend growing as a house plant unless you have a massive window sill. :D

Yeah I guessed it was heated, just wondered what the night time minimum is.
I run my greenhouse at a min of about 4C which I think is too cold for pineapples.

the conservatory rarely goes below 10C and always 20 by day.

Is your greenhouse a minimum of 4C or 10C pete? ... I got a bit lost there, pretty easy though. I think it's the greenhouse is 4C and the conservatory is 10C. [IMG]

Didn't strongy grow one last year and eat it?

    Its doing well Marley.
It should start to move even more this summer, although I dont think they could ever be described as FAST growing.
I find about three years to fruit in my conservatory, so I have a couple at different stages.

Pete, it probably was you and not strongy. [IMG]

I've thought about doing it and may just do so this year for fun as I'm doing my little "orchard" thing now of one offs.

Looking good, Marley .. and a bit off thread, but yes please to the national flower. [IMG]

[IMG] I did cut mine off Pal, I left the end to dry for a couple of days. Carefully pulled the last of the flesh off. Then I then carefully peeled off several layers of leaves. Until there were no damaged leaves. Sometimes you will see the roots starting as you peel the leaves off. Trial & error I think as you may have to try a couple before one roots, but I do have to say the surrey instructions are the best I found..! [IMG] Good Luck..!! :D

Lol my assistant over winters his dad's pineapples in the glasshouse at work as his isn't heated and they always fruit but not all of them are as mature or as large as the imported shop ones.
I have rooted two recently (Lidls pineapples) as I thought I would give them a try seeing as we eat so many. [IMG]
Pal, I cut mine at the base, I didn't know you were supposed to twist them, and let it dry for two days to seal the end then potted them in a mix of peat sand and vermiculite and at a temperature of 24c, they rooted in three weeks. [IMG]
