I bought a Hydrangea online two years ago and decided it would be ideal in a pot on the patio, so I planted it up in ericaceous compost (not sure why...). First year, no flowers and it looked a bit miserable so last Spring I planted it out in the garden, in a spot which is sheltered and gets sun from morning until about lunchtime, then its in shade for the rest of the day. Last year, no flowers but it did put on growth.

Now...its covered in flower buds...so the question is - what colour will the flowers be? To recap -
    • growing in dappled shade
    • soil is clay, fairly damp, but well fertilised by chicken manure (the chickens were on that spot until last Spring)
What do we think? I'd like blue, but not really bothered - just flowers are great!

    Hello Aaron

    Here is mine yesterday ...

It lives in a concrete pot facing North with only filtered sun. I think it's in a mix of our red clay and and substrata (fertilised compost) and like most of my other plants I don't feed it (must get my act together here). It was blue when I bought it but has been pink for the past two years.

    Very pretty Vicky.

Any colour would be fine - I'm just curious as to what that colour will be.

I have to say, you can't be doing it too much harm, the leaves are a lush dark green, just like they are supposed to be.

I have an Izu-at long last-thanks Ivory, and have neutral soil so am hoping it will be a nice pale blue, otherwise-well lilac will do too.

Mine looks really healthy - lots of leaves and LOADS of buds, so it must like where it is.

I'll post pics when it flowers. Thanks for the article as well Marley :)
