Hey, I'm new to gardening and I'm currently trying to sort out a mess I inherited!

Whilst digging out about 500,000,000,000 grape hyacinth plants, I found a bush. I have no idea what it is, but I was wondering if anyone on this forum might be able to help identify it. I've uploaded some pictures of it here.

Strange thing is though, as you can see, some parts of the bush seem to be growing flowers that look like (to me anyway) Lily of the Valley. Although, I'm pretty sure that's not what this bush is.

Any help?! Would be much appreciated!

Are you sure that they are one and the same? Those flowers look remarkably like blueberry bush flowers to me

Thanks everyone, I googled Pieris Japonica and that is indeed what it is. At first I thought it was two different plants growing on one bush - assumed some sort of sorcery was afoot!

Well, in a way, GT, the new red foliage does give you two shrubs for the price of one. The small white flowers are quite pretty so that's a bonus. There are several roses, like "Masquerade", where the flowers change colour as they age and so it looks like you have two roses growing in the same spot.:doh::heehee:

Just to add , Pieris prefer acid soil so a mulch with some Ericaceous compost and /or a feed with sequestrene (you can get them form the garden center) will bring the best out of it.:dbgrtmb:

@fat controller ...you're right about the flowers ,they are very much like Blueberry flowers:blue thumb:
