Right i will hopefully be entering the Local 'in bloom' competition where i live, now one part of their theme is to celebrate the 2012 olympics, so far i'be decided to have 5 round pots in the olympic ring colours, which if i join them up so they resemble the rings even better...lol!
Ideas needed for which type of low maintainance(sp?) that dont get too bushy has i want to show the colours of the pots, but ideally want the same colour plants has the pots...if that makes sense...
Colours being green, black, blue, red & yellow - i did think about doing pansies in each, but green pansy aren't readily available,so thinking of possibly a fern, unless you know of nice green flowering plant....

Any suggestions would be appreciated, many thanks :)

Green - there's little to beat Nicotiana (tobacco plant) 'lime green'. It does grow quite tall, however, so no good if you're thinking of bushy, low-growing plants.

Sorry Lolimac. I absolutely hate Lady's Mantle. To me it's an invasive weed that takes forever to get rid of.

For Green, why not have a pot of Herbs. Chives, Basil etc. will give a nice blend of colour and texture.

For black, you could try Ophiopogon nigrescens (Lilyturf), it grows quite happily in a pot or container and will soon make more foliage if fed and watered well.

For yellow, how about Tagetes (Pot Marigold)? Compact and reliable, these should produce a mass of yellow flowers quite quickly and will keep flowering for a long time.

As for green, try planting a load of mint in a pot, then just keep cutting it back. The more you cut it, the more it will keep producing fresh green leaves and fill the pot. Spearmint, with its large, bright green leaves is probably best for foliage.
