In the main categories we have gardening discussion and general discussion, each has around 20 or so fora within them but what I find strange is that "Plant Identification" is firmly in the general discussion area...wedged between members blogs and recipes.

Can we have the id area in amongst the gardening area please?

This morning I posted a topic in general chat and almost immediately had a few responses, then it was moved by a mod to the id area where it has suffered from no more replies.

At best the id area has had 2 people viewing it, whereas the general gardening chat has had over 100 viewing it all day, no doubt if my id request has stayed there it would have been answered by now.

    Regards

    Steve...:)

That would be down to the webmaster Steve, but I see your question was answered in the Identification area & not the Discussion area anyway..

I would like to say that nowadays I personally look in very few forums, one being the Identification Area and I must say that I find it strange that people put pictures up for ID in places such as Introduction (ie, hello, my name is ??? and I have this I don't know what it is ... ), or General Discussion or Gardening Discussion or in Plants, Trees, Shrubs, Container Gardening ... wherever...

I agree with Marley but I also agree with Steve that perhaps the ID section should be put in a more prominent position as I myself (when I have something I would like IDd outside of the Tropical Section which has it's own ID section within the forum as I had requested) have to 'look' for it.

In saying all the above, not sure where I would put it but not perhaps where it is ...somewhere more obvious both to the newcomer, person requiring an ID or those like myself who only look in certain areas where we may have expertise.

PS To me it's irrelvant how many people look at the posting (the majority are not members of the forum) ... the important issue is that someone IDs your photo ... as I did this morning within 20 minutes of you posting, Steve.

Actually it was answered in the general chat area first Marley..then moved..then nothing for hours before other responses came along. It just seems odd to me that the id area is where it is...so far removed from the rest of the gardening chat and sandwiched between blogs and recipes...that does not make any logical sense. And probably why people do post "id" topics all over the place.

As a new member of the forum I would definitely request moving of the plant ID area to somewhere more visible. And which doesnt require scrolling past half the other forums.

It would seem that plant IDs are a big part of why some people register judging by the number of ' what is this? ' type threads Ive seen in only my short time here.

If one goes to 'New Posts' then it does not matter where a question is asked, it comes up on the Search list and if one feels one can answer then one follows the link as I often do. My main difficulty is with these pesky little thumbnail things. The length of time it takes to go to the thread, then wait for the image to appear at a reasonable size makes it just not worth the effort of trying to help. Some of us canot have Broadband and are probably in the 2 percent which the Govt. admits will probably never have line based Broadband either.

I live in the sticks and it costs us double or more to be broadband, but sometimes needs must ...

I'd just like to say "thank you" for reviewing and moving the id area to a more appropriate place in the forum listing. A positive step forward in my book.

Sorry to be a burden but my beloved I.D area ( which is better placed now ) seems to list threads in alphabetical order now rather than chronological. Is there some way I can change it back to normal?

    Thanks, Iain

Hi Garden monkey, I think if you go to your "user CP"
    Edit Options..
    Scroll down to..
    Visible post Elements..
    Thread Display mode...

    Select... Linear... Oldest first..

    That should sort it..

Thanks Marley Farley. It was just the I.D threads that were in alphabetical order. Like the muppet I am, I hadn't seen the big 'Display Options' box at the bottom of the page. Sorted now :).
