Complete novice here, just getting to grips with gardening and I have a lovely hedge, quite strong smelling with a few pink flowers, have no idea what it is though!

    Any help greatly appreciated!

It's Escallonia. The leaves should have a smell of citrus and the flowers will have a sweet perfume too. :)

      Thank you mate.

The smell reminds me of mint, lovely little bush imo.

Well, mine is about 6ft high and 10 wide maybe, most of the garden hedge is. filled with cherry laurel though so it's small in line haha

I'd rather have the Escallonia than the Laurel. :) I have the Escallonia running down one side of my garden and Hebe on two thirds of the other side. That's still young at 4ft so doesn't need cutting yet.

Believe me, so would I! The Escallonia is lovely, and the only cutting is to stop it invading the path, my 22 month old complains and points at it repeatedly haha.

Escallonia certainly has a strong growth rate but it's manageable. :)
