Hemerocallis? I don't think they spread easily though, as in seeding around, so you'd have had to have planted it.
Not sure the foliage is right, but maybe with different varieties etc.
It looks like something else too but my memory fails me.

Has it come under the fence? That might explain both 'can't remember ' and 'doesn't seed around'

Hemerocallis did cross my mind, I’ve got quite a few varieties, but they all have labels and I know where they are. It’s quite possible it came from a neighbour’s garden… I’ll let it be as long as it’s not something invasive.

Another vote for Hemerocallis from me. Iris foetidiisima is a possible candidate for a self seeded arrival but the centre and leaves form are much flatter than they appear in your photo and the green is paler

Looks a bit like Ajuga @Jenny namaste, but like the earlierplant - it also looks like something else I can't put my finger on!

I was sitting near one of my sibirica Irises earlier, and it crossed my mind that the foliage is very similar to your plant @pitter-patter, but they aren't like that at the base. They're more clump forming, with several stems coming from below ground - in the same way as phormiums.
