    Hi
I moved into my new home about 3 years ago and been battling this weed/plant around my borders and it just keeps coming back. Its creeping into the garden and is very resilient. Does anybody know what it is and how I can eradicate it? Many thanks

Hi @Andy4157, and welcome to GC :sign0016:

It would be easier to identify if we could see a picture, however I think you need to have made ten posts before you can post a picture, and have at least one 'like' (which you now have ;))

Either keep chatting to us all here on a few threads (you'll be surprised how easy it is to get to ten posts), give us a description of the plant you are concerned about, or if it helps I can PM you my email address and you can email me the picture which I can then post on your behalf?

Either way, I hope you enjoy GC, and I am sure that you will get the best of advice to help cure your problem.

I'll guess Cinquefoil as that hasn't come up for ages (unless you've got it in your garden).

Thank you everyone for your replies. Having trawled the internet it appears to be ground elder. It has a mass of viney white root in the soil. A few people have been suggesting glysophate? I dug up about 3 metres wide one metre deep of root and it killed me. Got another 50 metres to go, some is growing underneath a length of hedgerow

Apologies for taking a while to come back - pictures on behalf of @Andy4157 confirm that it is indeed ground elder

It might take a few applications of glyphosate to get shot of it - looks as though it is growing with vigour at the moment.

Well done zigs! And thank you fat controller for posting the pictures. I think its going to take some commitment to get rid of it. I got very frustrated with it one time and put the rotovater through it and thought I could churn it to death...two weeks later little shoots were popping through the soil laughing at me

You are more than welcome :)

I suspect that rotovating it might have made matters worse as it grows from rhizomes (goodness, get me going all 'gardeney' - looks like I might just be learning! :snork:)

Ooo no, if you chop it up, each bit of root makes a new plant  Keep picking it till the roots are starved, mamoth job though :phew:
