Taxonomy is to do with the naming of plants.

This link isn't the most exciting in the world  but it does give you further links to be able to do as you've been asked.

The main system is the binomial one, using the genus and species names, e.g. Taxus baccata, which is the yew.

    Hope that helps :D

A taxonomic tree shows how all living things are broken down into Plants and Animals etc. Then each of these are broken down further. Plants are broken down into seed bearing and non seed bearing etc, and continue to be broken down to Family, and ultimately Genus and Species. Have a look here.

Be aware that there are many systems, that can vary slightly in their naming and grouping. I have just created one myself see http://www.gardenerscorner.co.uk/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=003410 but it sounds like you should be doing your own. Try Googling for Taxonomy and Cronquist in Wilkopedia.

Hi TeaTree. Just thinking about my last post. I didn't mean to be rude or condescending when I said you should be doing your own. You are very welcome to a copy of my spreadsheet. However I found that the act of doing the research was really more valuable than the finished taxonomic tree.
