    Hello all,

I have ordered many plants, which mostly have arrived and are now in pots, awaiting planting into final positions.

Now I find that I am overcome with doubt!

If I were to post a photo of the site (with existing planting - which is not sacrosanct), and what I have awaiting planting, would it be expecting too much to ask for planting help?

The main reason I ask is because when I drew up the list, last autumn, everything seemed sunnier than it it is now...

    Hmmm...

    The sun will return!....
Seriouusly - you know what you wanted before - do you really want to change that? It's your garden, and it's always good to see what you had in your mind really take place. If you want help, we'll all tell you what we think - but in the end, you're the one who'll plant it all! Remember what they say - the first thought is the best!

I know it sounds silly, but it has dawned on me that the sun requirements are not what the paricular area receives ALL year, but what it receives when the plant is flowering ( or probably, WHILE it it is getting ready to flower.)

    Does this seem right?

My garden seems to be so shady, it is hard to fit in what I would like to grow!

All areas seem to be shady/part shady.

    AS NIXONF23 SAYS
the sun will return, if you planned it out, and you have the plants, stick to your plan.
are your new plant all herbaceous and shrubs?
is so then plant as originally planned, if you dont like the effect this year, make some notes and move them around next. thats the beauty with perennials

I'm with all the others - go with the ideas you had last autumn your mind's eye picture was probably right with the summer still fresh in your mind, than now, with winter only just past. you can always move things around if they don't fit - and plants don't read books and can be very tolerant of changing light.

Yes - go with it Jerry. Then in the summer you will have to take lots of photos and make a plan of what areas are dry/normal/damp and full sun/light shade/dark shade, and try and match the plants to the places for next year. Its a learning process - and this time next year you will have a whole load more experience. This will be my fourth summer of gardening, and I am planning (yet again) to move half the garden around.
