I bought by mail order a dozen Clematis. ( I know one was The Prsident, can't remember the other two varities) They were plug plants which I potted into small peat pots a couple of months ago. Should I pot them on into bigger pots for winter or plant out into growing position now . And how do I protect them through our wet winters
    Thanks for any advice

You could plant them out now, but personally I prefer to plant clematis in spring. If you can find those long pots which Clems are sold in, then they are the best things to use.
In the ground as long as it is well drained the winter rain should have no effect on them. If the ground is waterlogged then you would need to do something about the drainage no matter when you plant.
