I wanted to plant out some carrots today, but.
I needed to dig some holes close to some onions I have planted and did not want to disturb the roots by digging with hand tool.
Also I did not want to use a dibber as they tend to compact the soil.
Seeds where germinated in paper pots with a general purpose compost.
Solution I come up with takes a bit of time (I have plenty of that these days)
One length of waste pipe found in my garage, known locally as the "Black Hole"

Next I plunged the pipe into the planting position like a drill and removed a nice clean plug of soil.

Down to about 8" seemed to be about right.
Drop the pot into the hole.

Worst part was removing the plug from the pipe. A few whacks and out it come. Im lucky the soil is dryish and stone free.

End result was a row of carrots planted in nice clean holes with no disturbance to next door onions.

    Sorted!

That's a brilliant idea, would also be good for planting runner beans in loo roll tubes :thumb:

Good idea. Those paper pots may also deter those wretched little tunneling slugs.
