I am going to start off some seeds
I have some very fine sterile soil
vermiculite, pearlite, sharp sand, and peat compost

Could I make a mix, or should I buy this John Innes seed mix ?

You only need a small bag of Seed Compost (you only need to start the seeds off in small containers, and then prick-out to multi-purpose compost in small pots / or modules), so I would recommend seed-compost - more likely to get the water balance right for the seeds.

I have always grown my seeds in multi purpose compost, nothing added and not had a problem. :)
