Is planting trees in public permitted?
Would like to know more about this if someone could help me.

I'm guessing you mean on public/council owned land.

You will have to contact your local council, may be even the county council depending on where you live, and where you want the tree planted. They will be able to help, as many councils have a plant a tree scheme, which run every year.

You will need to speak to the tree officer, or someone in the parks department, and they should be able to help you with selection of tree/locations etc.

    Hope this Helps!

Part of me is tempted to say just do it when nobody is looking, but really there are all sorts of considerations that come into play, that make it worth seeking advice from the council like Plant1star said. For example, would the roots undermine any foundations, or is it a non-native and potentially invasive species, or would it obstruct visibility for traffic or pose a risk of injury in high winds etc etc.

What sort of setting did you have in mind? Roadside verge? In the woods? In place of one of the flagstones in a busy pedestrian shopping area? (someone actually did that last one a few years ago and got done:) ).

Basically have a look around the area asses which trees are growing naturally around your area then go out and buy one and plonk it in at about 2am:rotfl:
