This one concerns a border by the front window.

There is an overhang so it stays dry.

As you can see bulbs grow but anything else preferably either hardy evergreen or hardy perennial to fill it out. Would prefer some colour of course

    cheers

What direction does your border face @Smallzoo, what type of soil do you have and is there much depth? These details will help with suitable recommendations.

The soil depth varies from 6" to 18" and some of the border has concrete underneath ( footings I am guessing )...the direction is NE

The only plant I grow that will tolerate those conditions @Smallzoo is Euphorbia amygdaloides var robbiae. Not very exciting but it’s evergreen, with acid green flowers in spring. The milky white sap can be a skin irritant but it doesn’t affect me. You could also try Sempervivums, they prefer sun but will appreciate dry conditions. A shade tolerant grass, Sesleria autumnalis might be happy in the wider part of your border. It’s evergreen, with attractive flower spikes in late summer but it will need watering in the first year until well established.

I wonder if Heuchera would tolerate that position @Smallzoo? A good mix of those would look lovely:)

We did try that and they lasted a year but then died

I think we will try grasses at each end of the border and then in the middle where the soil is only about 6 inches deep try something else

    What about alpines ?

Reading this as dry with overhang, would shrubby planting such as heather, rosemary, hebe be to your taste?

The soil is only about 6" deep in the middle and much deeper at the ends. According to LandIS our soil type is as follows
    Soilscape 18:
Slowly permeable seasonally wet slightly acid but base-rich loamy and clayey soils
    Texture:
    Loamy and clayey
