I would love to have a rose. I've put together some criteria together for what I'd prefer. There might not be a rose that fits all the criteria but if you could help me find one that fills as many of them as possible, or a couple that fill most criteria between them I'd be really happy :)

    My ideal rose would:

+ Not take up much room
    + Live indoors happily
    + Be scented
+ Have edible petals (just so I can try homegrown rose petals :D)

+Preferably also be happy outdoors in UK (not so bothered about this point; I don't have a garden yet)

    Thanks!

Hi Jw well to be perfectly honest A miniature Rose is your answer:)

The secret of growing roses indoors as houseplants is to ensure plenty of light - including full sunlight for part of the day. A shaded corner of the room will result in a short-lived disappointment with the rose flowers soon disappearing. They should be grown in a well drained potting compost, watered freely - ensuring moist root system, with occasional misting - but not in full sunlight.

If you could let me know which colour(and Taste) you prefer I could track a suitable Rose down for you:)

    Here,s just one example:)

    1 Anna Ford/Parents/Southampton x Darling Flame

    1 They won,t take up much room:thmb:
2.They will live indoors quite Happily:thmb:
3.Depending on which one you choose will be scented:thmb:
    4.Will have edible petals:thmb::D
5.Will live happily outdoors in the summer:thmb:

    Ooh gosh, well:
+ Part of me's a sucker for the traditional red rose of love :luv: Are there any miniature roses similar to what you see at Valentines Day?
+ Part of me's colour crazy - some roses on the web I've seen have a duo tone, I like that; like when they're yellowy or white but with pink edges.
+ I'd probably prefer a bright/warm/ deeply coloured rose to a pale one, unless the pale colour was part of a duo tone. That orange colour on that rose photo is fantastic.
+ I'd like at least one scented rose, no matter what it looks like.

    Does that help?

Pretty; I like them all but Lavender Jewel is especially gorgeous - lovely shape and one of my favourite colours :luv: I googled more information on it and it seems to be exactly what I'm looking for. Thank you very much!

Do you know a reputable place where I can buy seeds of it? I'd like to try growing it from a seed.

Hi Jw some Roses but not many, come true from seed;but in most cases they do not germinate in their first year,so be prepared to have to wait anything up to two years,The easiest are Rugosas, you should grow the seedlings on to the stage of flowering and to fruiting if their hips are decorative,in order to cull the inferior ones,a lot of species have invasive suckers, and if grown from seed this quality will have full rein, Hope this as been of some help to you:)

Oh, you learn something new every day. If I wanted the Lavender Jewel rose anyway, are there any places that could carefully send one to me or do you have to be near the place and pick it up yourself? Obviously I'm not expecting one to be sent in an envelope :D

Hi Jw the choice is yours you could do either search for a Rose Nursery or pick one up yourself but as I don,t know your geographic position I cannot advise you as to which one, good luck with your search:)
