Please ID this lovely thing

    hallo,
    this made me stop in my tracks and stare at it for a while it is so lovely - a mass of white leaves make it look like snow. It stands on one stem - am told it is a weed but i'm having it in my garden. Seen in a garden on the shores of Lake Balaton in Hungary. I think its a perennial as apparently it dies back in late autumn but comes back every year. It endures +30 in summer and -10 in winter. grows to about 3 feet, spread is about the same. I must have this thing.

    Never grown it myself...just seen it at St Andrews Botanic Garden, inside a green house.
