I got a plant/tree as a xmas present but I foolishly threw away the tag not expecting to have problems with. All the leaves are falling off it and I've no idea how to rectify it.

I'd be grateful if someone could identify the type of plant it is and also what I might be doing wrong.

I'll attach a pic of of it

    thanks

Looks vaguely like some kind of Ficus, bonsai.

Yep a Ficus.. I have one of those..

1.They need plenty of light, a warm window sill is good place for them.. They do not do well away from light..

    2. Do Not over water.. Push your finger into the compost & if dry about 1/2" down then water.. They only need water occasionally at this time of year..

    3. Never let them dry out completely & never leave them standing in water for more than 1hr.. In winter I think I prob only water about one or twice a fortnight as the roots don't like being cold & damp..
    4. I feed with a weak feed every other month in summer..

    thanks for the responses.

Yeah light is almost certainly the issue. It was getting any light where I had so I've moved it now and hopefully it will grow its leaves back

They can be prone to not tolerating low temperature draughts too so bear that in mind.

In the process of moving house a few years ago some of my plants went to SWMBO's mother who turns out popped them in the brightest spot she could find...next to an external door which she nearly always left open. They came back nicely though after their holiday in the wind tunnel :loll:
