I'm sure I'm not the only one to notice this. I'm not a fan of driving over the christmas period. The reason being simply that there is a lot of terrible driving going on.

This year, so far, is no different. On Friday just gone, on the way home from work the car in front of me was straddling the white lines marking the middle of the road. Then yesterday I had to flash someone repeatedly to try to make him remember that when we drive after dark, we put our lights on. Nearly got wiped out more than a couple of times, in my own neighbourhood, by taxis rushing about like maniacs.

Taxi drivers will be sober, but the increased demand at this time of year makes them think they're the Stig.

Lots of other people are driving about either drunk or hung over.

The thing is we can rant about it, but its going to happen regardless. So please, I'm sure you all know this, but take extra care. Drive defensively, and whether you're walking, cycling or driving or whatever, just be extra observant.

    All the best:)

Don't have a tellybox, but i've usually seen something about the police drink drive campaign by now.

Not seen a thing this year, are they doing one or have they run out of money like the rest of us?

Sometime this evening, my youngest daughter will be driving herself and her 'other-half' - plus his broken ankle - to spend Christmas with us. They'd normally come via two motorways, a journey which on a good day, would take about 1hr. Of course, she thinks I'm 'fussing' (and she's probably right!), but at 26 this will only be her 5th Christmas as a driver and I think and hope, that I've finally persuaded her to forego the motorways and use urban roads instead.

Yes, the journey will take considerably longer but as I've tried to point out to her, whilst she may not have drunk alcohol for over a year (due to a stomach condition) an idiot who has, driving on an urban road will probably do a lot less damage to considerably fewer people than an idiot driving at 70, 80, 90 or 100 mph, on a motorway.

Just as a BTW - the 'other half's' broken ankle was nothing to do with driving - he tripped over their front door threshold!!

Went into the nearest town approaching lunchtime and and got held up by an accident, then got held up by a shunt, then had to swerve in order to avoid being hit by a mad taxi driver, then saw another shunt happen less than a minute after passing after doubling back because of the traffic drivers getting crazy and deciding to go home before the lunchtime drinkers and works party crowd got on the roads.

I noticed it too this morning. Everyone seemed to be "on a mission" and some not being fair and sharing the road width 50/50 as others have described in previous posts.
We are lucky, not driving any great distance until Boxing Day and certainly not out tonight. Stay safe all of you who are,
      Jenny

Sadly, its not just drivers - I had to attend the scene of an incident yesterday where a car had hit a pedestrian, with the pedestrian obviously coming off worst:

      IMAG0175.jpg

Its hard to see on the image at that size, but there is a sizeable dent in the bonnet and windscreen.

I'm told that the car was turning right out of the junction that is in the background of the image, and that the impact took place a little further back as well - there is no crossing at this point, and even railings to stop people from trying to cross (the crossing is on the right hand side of the picture where the police officer is), yet the pedestrian apparently chose to dash across the road in the middle of the junction.

Whilst I obviously hope that the pedestrian makes a swift and full recovery, its the car driver I really feel for.
