Please tell me it's Arbutus Unedo.

Found this pot in the Tatty Corner, the seedlings are strong and for once, don't look like Birch seedlings.

I sowed a potful or two of Arbutus Unedo seeds last year, and am confident that in spite of not having dark green leathery leaves, these must be them.

In the unlikely event that they are not, I'd appreciate an ID please Thank you!

 

I'd say not.
But they do look like tree seeds of some kind.

 

Oh thanks Pete. You could at least have started with "hmmm... possibly Arbutus Unedo... sometimes juvenile leaves are quite unlike the mature ones... "

Yes, a tree by the looks of it. The shape of the leaf is quite elongated and doesn't look like the usual suspects. For a tree, I find it unusual to see the round baby leaves.

 

How big were the seeds you sowed?

 

Hmmmm...could be Arbutus unedo, but the leaves look too toothed. Hang on, just retrieving my dentures from across the room..... ahhhh..that's better. The red stems are promising, but you'll just have to wait and see

 

I think the seed leaves are too big.
I've never grown it from seed but I wouldn't expect Arbutus seedlings to be quite so big.

 

That looks more like a cherry, arbutus seeds are small...about the size of pansy seeds

 

OK, the new suspect is Crab apple. My lovely neighbours have two in containers (stupid successful container gardening ) and the plants are gorgeous (stupid well chosen specimens ) so it's possible that the birds may have gifted me an offspring.

A bit pointy for a crab apple perhants?
