The scrub (Field maples and the like) along the road was clear-felled by Electricity board recently as it had grown tall enough to interfere with the wires.

I want to plant Cherry Trees along there, about 4M from the road (will that do?)

In the Spring my DW saw a copper-leaved Cherry avenue (in flower) that she liked the look of.

What variety would you recommend? (if its copper leaved that's a bonus :))

    And what planting distance?

I've forgotten what distance I researched now  but it worked out at 8 plants; they are the same price for 10 so I reckon I'll plant two more on the other side of the drive entrance to make it a bit more of a show

(The electricity wires are a fair bit higher than all the other wires around&about, so height is not something I'll have to worry about I reckon ...)

Maybe not what you're looking for Kristen, but I like Prunus Amanagawa.
Quite tall and upright, so no branches hanging over the road.
The show in spring, early summer is spectacular, and they are beautifully scented.
The autumn colours are great - everything from buttermilk to fireglow.
Hope you find the trees you want for your vision.

Yes, I have Amanagawa in the shrubbery and I like its exclamation mark impact in Spring. (There are a pair of rows, in borders either side of a path, at Hidcote; although we visited in Summer this year I imagined how they would look in Spring).

But you are right, I need something bigger for by the road. Its a stretch of between 60 and 80 yards long and I think it would be a nice harbinger of Spring to drive past every time we leave the house :)

I unfortunately have quite a few Kanzan which are not my personal favourite , they are really pretty large so don't have the heart to take them down, have had both Shirofugen and Shirotae in a previuos garden both of which were lovely but don't know if they would suit where you mean to plant. I just prefer white or pale pink blossom but that's my preference which isn't the same as others.
