    Hi

What do you all do, grow from seeds or buy plug plants?

It is such hard work and expensive to grow from seeds, one wonders whether it would pay to cheat :D

I don't think it's cheating, it depends how much time and what facilities you have. Up till now I've had to buy plug plants as I've only just got a greenhouse, no conservatory, and one windowsill for seedlings.
I usually manage to grow my own broad beans, green beans, peas, and tomatoes from seed, also lobelia, sweet peas and other easy things. This year it's so cold and wet here that in spite of the greenhouse if I want any plants other than fuschias and geraniums, I shall have to buy some if I want any flowers before mid summer! Added to that I just frosted my little tomatoes so will have to start again.
Also with seeds you get such a lot, and despite the excellent range of seeds around there are some varieties you can't get.
A happy medium is the answer, I think.

There is a lot to be said for plug plants Stingo. Things like Petunias can be cheaper as plugs than as seeds - let alone the trouble. But the range of plugs available is pretty small compared to Chiltern who offer over 5000 different seeds.

I use both - seeds for some things - either new plants or I need a lot of plants, plug plants for others - usually when I don't want a whole lot of plants, or seedlings. I also get grown established plants - that ain't cheating either.

Each has its role - none is better, just what you want at that time.

    Thanks Liz, Peter and Fran.

Only joking about the cheating bit!! :D

I agree that a happy medium is the answer, whatever suits you at the time.
