For the first time ever I have grown potatoes this year. They are in a bin in my garden, and I have been topping up the soil as instructed and they now look ready for harvesting.

Unfortunately we have a laburnum tree in our garden and the seeds have been dropping into the soil of the potato bin. They have been buried in the soil as I have been topping it up. I now know these are poisonous and am worried that they have broken down in the soil and the potatoes will have absorbed the poison.

Can anyone tell me whether this is possible please?? It would be such a shame to waste the potatoes but I'm not sure it's worth the risk. Any ideas would be much appreciated!!

    Many thanks

Dont think it would bother me.

The actual laburnum plant and seeds are poisonous, so you would have to eat the seeds or some of the plant to get poisoned.

Its worth bearing in mind that the top growth and the fruits of potatoes are also poisonous.
Its only the tubers that are edible, except when they go green, and then they are poisonous also.

I totally agree with Pete, you have to eat the seeds to be affected. Your spuds will be fine.
