Hello all just bought some bare roots of this plant. Any tips on growing it successfully as past attempts have failed.

Is it Polianthes? A bulb? Grow it in a pot in ordinary MPC. Feed fortnightly in spring and summer once the leaves appear. Gradually reduce watering in autumn and keep dormant in a cool, frost-free place over winter. It does tend to split into lots of smaller bulbs, so these can be re-potted to grow on or given away and just the larger ones kept for the following year's display. Pic added just to check that we're talking about the same thing :)

I used to grow these successfully for the first year, after that I could never get the tiny tubers to bulk up.
I've tried them a few times more recently and the tubers they are selling seem smaller and mine have not flowered.
Got my money back with the last ones I tried.

Must admit I neglect mine shamefully except between April and June, but they do flower each year. Maybe the key is to not overwater. The perfume is everything promised and more :).....

Are you growing these outside or in pots?

the last times I bought any they were in those plastic bags with a card on the front and were Dutch stock.

They're in pots, @pete. Very small clay pots. Don't go buying any, I'll find a way to get some to you

I've just ordered three, so we will see what happens, I hope they flower as the scent is really overpowering in the evenings.

Well my bulbs have all rotted so I won’t try that again. You live and learn!

Mine have just started shooting, but they have had some bottom heat the last few weeks.

Mine that I bought in Poundland a few years ago are shooting too. They live in the unheated greenhouse section. However I've found flowering is not reliable - and since last summer was lousy, I don't know if the bulbs will be big enough.

I grew these for years but could never get them to flower after the first year.

Ah what a shame! I don't water mine at all until they show signs of life, and then sparingly. They get more water and feed when there's plenty of foliage. It's a sound rule of thumb for most tender, bulbous plants
