They should lock the handler in the car and see how they like it.
    Disgraceful.
We'll just see what if anything happens to them.
I rushed back from shopping today because our dog was in the locked up house, who would leave them in a car this weather.

Yes exactly, it will get hushed up until everyone forgets about it and then nothing will happen to him.

    Disgusting!!

If it was one of us then we would definately get prossecuted but I doubt very much this will happen at all!

Another classic case of one rule for 'us' and one rule for 'them'!!!

Why one earth anyone would take a dog in a car in this weather in beyond me anyway .,..... and the fact he wasnt even on duty .... so there was no reason for dogs to be in there on a day like yesterday!!

I am sure it was an accident these dog handlers are devoted to their dogs and they will be mortified at what has happened,it could be they left them for a short time and were held up in the temperatures we have had it would only take half an hour for the dogs to succumb to the heat more a case of carelessness, there were this week over a thousand cases reported to the rspca of animals left in vehicles and several fatalities.

Just as a warning to people. :flag:

I saw an interview about dogs being in hot cars. Apparently they can die from just being left in that sort of heat for only five minutes as their cooling system isn't as good as ours. We would only find it uncomfortable for five minutes.

So don't leave your dog in the car even if you are just popping into the newsagent for a paper.

I am sure most of them are devoted to their dogs - but he wasnt on duty so there was no reason for the dogs to even be there while he popped into work.

Am sure he wouldnt have left his children locked in a car yesterday so he shouldnt have left the dogs either.

Its just common sense not too.

As its been so hot the last couple of days, I leave all the windows open on the safety catches while I go to work so they get fresh air ...... and even the fan on in the bedroom so they can lie under it when they get hot ..... and the two of them make full uses of it I can assure you lol

Two dogs laying spread out on their backs, legs in the air while the fan is on flat out ..... such a picture :)

In the summer months I also fill their bowls up with icecubes before I leave for work too, so they melt during the day giving them lots of icecold water .... we have countless bowls all over the floor at the moment as would rather leave too much and throw it away than not enough obviously!!

You just can never be careful in the warm weather, not sure during a 'heatwave' IMHO

These police dogs are very well trained so why didn't he take the dogs with him?
    There is no excuse.
To leave anyone or anything in a locked car in the heat we have is criminal.

I heard this yesterday morning and was appalled at the news.

Another reason why we haven't rushed out to get another dog since losing Tina because we had this for nearly ffiteen years. We always took her everywhere with us,although we avoided anywhere where there were crowds of people on hot days as it wasn't fair to make her walk round in the heat and to get trodden on and when we went on holiday we took her with us and when we went shopping one of us would stand outside with her while the other had a quick look round the shop, then we would swop.Even when we went grocery shopping on holiday we had to do the same but there was no way would we leave her on her own in the car.:)

They were saying on the news that there is eight cases being investgated just this week and we all know how hot it has been this week.Don't people ever stop and think?:(

I would never take my dog in the car this weather 5 mins in a car is lethal for them, you would think with police vans they would have some sort of air conditioning unit in them, those dogs were not in the van that long and apparently that handler is getting questioned and he could get a prison sentance but i doubt it.
when im out i leave rosa in the kitchen as its much cooler in there, she doesnt even like sitting in the lounge as it gets hot.

I totally agree with you Lyn. I'm sure that there could have been some arrangement.

In the hot weather, I never used to take my dogs out in the daytime, just at night, when it was a lot cooler. I hate to see a dog being walked on a very hot day, at the hottest time in the day. Its just madness!

I hope the police officer is punished severely, as any member of the public who leaves a dog in a car on a hot day should.

Usually they don't. Police dog handlers are only human...which is why this person should be prosecuted as anyone else would be and not given the slap on the wrists that may happen.

Then again, Britain has always been a nation of animal lovers so this story is bound to shock. Yet we are happy to make commuters in London travel on the underground in conditions and temperatures that it is illegal to transport animals in.

An appropriate disciplinary would be sufficient.
