Have we all become super sensitive or is this just reasonable cultural/social advancement I wonder.

Yesterday I read in the news of a tragic case where someone had been badly injured and later died. I don't mean to dismiss that tragedy in any way, but the news article was about a controversy around a password given to the family that they needed to use to get to see the poor individual. The password was 'banana', which was likely a random word picked from a dictionary of words by a piece of software. Apparently this is offensive to afro Caribbeans because bananas are associated with monkeys. I must be a monkey. I consume loads of bananas.

Then today in the news, Mars, the owners of the sweets M&Ms, are ditching their cartoon character animated sweets from their adverts. Something to do with their shoes sending derogatory messages out to certain sections of society. They didn't say which sections, or who had complained, but I'd never read anything into that. I just saw mildly amusing animated characters.

It's getting to a point where we all have to dress in suits and speak like we're quoting a legal contract just to avoid upsetting someone.

People read too much into things, who cares if an advert changes its character's shoes? I expect the marketing people are very happy with all the free publicity, a cynic might suggest it was done on purpose.

Talking about adverts trying to make themselves controversial I saw one using a photo of Dr Harold Shipman. To be honest that sort of thing just turns me off, I just ignore it, maybe others rise to the bait.
