I live in spain and have a mature Pomegranate tree. every year it is loaded with fruit that grow large and then split. the fruit inside is still white so therefore I presume is not yet ripe. what is the cause of the fruit splitting

Well avocadopip, I'm not really familliar with growing plants in Spain, but with most fruits, splitting occours when the plant gets a good dose of water after a spell of drought.

My guess would be that after the summer heat perhaps some rain has fallen. [IMG]

If leaves are dropping as well, it could be a fungal disease that resulting leaves dropping and fruit splitting.

Hi avocadopip and a warm welcome from me too.

I'm sure that pete is right with his tip, we had that happen to our tomatoes this year too.
